Lyon Public Library

Famous for its rich patrimony, its history and innovative services, the Lyon Public Library is the largest public library in France and offers nearly 3.8 billion documents.

Bachut Public Library

On 5 floors and 2500 m2, the Bachut Public Library offers nearly 80 000 documents (DVD, CD, journals, online resources… ). In the heart of Lyon’s 8th district, the library provides comfortable premises to read and work.

The Rockefeller library holds more than 100 000 documents available and specializes in disciplines related to health (Medicine, pharmacy, human biology, veterinary medicine, paramedical disciplines, rehabilitation engineering…).

The Science Library is one of the ten inter connected academic libraries of Claude Bernard University Lyon 1 and is dedicated to sciences and technologies, sport sciences and economics. The library is open to all and numerous cultural events are organized throughout the academic year to highlight the library ressources and to efficiently spread scientific and technical knwoledge. It also offers online ressources and the Ask a librarian service. On the ground floor, students can find general knowledge books, novels, newspapers, comics strips and DVDs to take a break between two study sessions.

The collections and the digital document service both specialize on engineering, humanities and social sciences.

Maison du livre, de l’image et du son

This Public Library has an impressive architecture and offers a most versatile collection for those who like to read, study, relax and learn. The media center provides 150 000 books, but also invites you to discover the large collections of the video and music library. In the “artothèque”, you can enjoy the temporary exhibitions and borrow more than 1300 works of art of nearly 600 contemporary artists.

As a space for culture and exchange, the Rize Public Library offers myriad of activities and 35 000 documents, focusing on new releases of TV series, music and classic and contemporary literature. The Rize Library is dedicated to the history of Villeurbanne and its inhabitants though their testimonies, archives and stories, and many free cultural events, exhibitions and conferences are organized to bring the community together. The Rize project aim to explore the strong identity of Villeurbanne from an historical and sociological perspective.

Located in the heart of the Manufacture des Tabacs campus, the Manufacture Library houses multidisciplinary collections for use by licence students, and is a pole of reference for management resources within the University of Lyon. This library is dedicated to law, management, literature, languages and humanities.

This documentation center pays tribute to the Congolese Human Rights defender Floribert Chebaya, who has been assassinated in June 2010. It offers more than 5 000 documents concerning geopolitical and migration issues and focussing Central Africa.

Presentation of the future Lacassagne library by the Public Library of Lyon

The Lyon library system is still expanding: in summer 2016, the doors of the new Lacassagne Library will be opening. Located in the 3rd district, this new cultural space will focus on leisure, recreation and issues related to daily life. It is characterized by its extraordinary proximity to its public, involving users by organizing workshops dedicated to the exchange of knowledge and a café of philosophy.

Diderot Library

A national and multidisciplinary library for students and researchers which offers scientific, electronic and audiovisual resources. Situated in the campus of the Ecole Normale Supérieure Lyon (ENS), the Diderot Library disposes of an expertise in documentation that makes it outstanding in the field of higher education.

The Library of Lyon’s Museum of the Fine Arts holds 50 000 volumes of art history available, covering the period from Antiquity to the 20th century. It aims to catch up the backlog in France regarding the documentary sources for research in art history and to provide free access to the collections of books and periodicals to its researchers, professionals and fans. As a Research Library, it also enables reflecting new findings in research on an international level. The library’s reputation is based on the richness and the relevance of its collections as well as on the quality of its services and its high standards.
